Assessment of Municipal Solid Waste Management. Case Study of Adigrat City, Tigray, Ethiopia

      Аннотация: Concern about sustainable development and environmental sound policies have been growing considerably everywhere. Waste production and management are among the issues that need to be dealt with. In Ethiopia, as in many other developing countries, waste management problems are growing and are not been handled well and the situation is often aggravated by low level of municipal capacities and absence of modern approaches of waste management. Poor waste management results into health hazards among urban residents, environmental pollution, besides the negative aesthetic impacts.Integrated solid waste management is the best option which local authorities of developing countries can adopt to as to solve the problem of waste management. It embraces waste avoidance and minimization methods, reuse and recycling programs, collection of refuse, treatment methods and safe disposal. The result and recommendations of the study will stimulate actions towards sustainable and integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management in cities of developing countries. It will also contribute significantly towards current MSWM policy review, formation and implementation so as make cities more habitable.
