Аннотация: Environment & survival are complementary. We have to raise public awareness & provide support for changes that are needed to be ushered into our life styles & attitudes,if we are to preserve our earth, our environment & our family. Keeping in view this objective,a detailed study involving workers community of Kaliapani Chromite Mines was undertaken. Attempts were made to focus on living conditions, health, hygiene, education & environmental impact of mining activities on their life pattern. Further efforts were made to assess environmental awareness among the workers community. From the above study it was observed that due to lack of awareness, the workers community are facing a lot of problem.Suggestions were given to mining authorities to take necessary steps for development of socioeconomic condition in the region & conduct programmes regularly to enhance environmental awareness among the inhabitants.Undeniably, the proposed mining activities have left some perceptible impact on environment. However, environmental protection plans implemented by authorities are showing positive improvement. It was suggested that over-exploitation of non-renewable resources should be avoided.
