Community-Based Health Insurance in Burundi.

      Аннотация: Burundi is a low-income country of Africa, and it has not achieved universal health coverage (UHC) yet. Access to adequate and affordable health care is difficult for the 90% of the Burundian population of the informal sector who live mainly in the rural area. The author conducted research in northern provinces of Burundi. He collected information from community members. In this book, he shows challenges the community members faced and what they undertook in order to have a mechanism of their own known as a “community-based health insurance” allowing them to access health care at a low cost. He also depicts special values of community leaders that allowed them to address challenges they encountered in the governance and management of such schemes. He recommends what community members, donors and the Government can do to ensure good performance of those mechanisms and to bring their contribution to the achievement of UHC in Burundi. This book is very useful to people interested in the well-being of the rural population and the field of social protection in general and in community-based health insurance in particular.
