Africa and the MDGs. The Feasibility of Achieving the 2015 Millennium Development Goals by African Countries: The Case of Zimbabwe

      Аннотация: This book focuses on the feasibility of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Zimbabwe by 31 December 2015, citing reasons for the introduction of MDGs, analyzing the extent to which Zimbabwe can achieve these goals, discussing policies enacted by the Zimbabwean government to support the achievement of the MDGs, analyzing the role of the international community in helping Zimbabwe to achieve the MDGs, discussing factors hindering the achievement of MDGs in Zimbabwe and, last but not least, providing recommendations and solutions to the achievement of MDGs in Zimbabwe. To obtain primary data, the study utilized in-depth interviews, questionnaires and a focus group discussion targeting government ministries, organizations (local and international) and MSU Politics and Public Management students. This was further complimented by secondary data from an extensive relevant literature. The information gathered showed that brain drain, corruption, political violence, HI/AIDS effects, sanctions, religious and cultural belief, debt, limited time frame only to mention but a few are the major challenges to the achievement of MDGs in Zimbabwe by the December 2015 deadline.
