Аннотация: Historically, in the educational field, numerous efforts have been made to facilitate the complex process of foreign language reading comprehension. Recently, increasing attention has been paid to task-based language teaching and its effectiveness in reading comprehension teaching and learning. The present study investigates the most effective way of teaching reading and the vocabulary included, among the three methods of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) and Grammar Translation Method (GTM). It relies on current models of reading which emphasize the interactive nature of reading and constructive nature of comprehension. The study population consisted of 30 pre intermediate students studying English at Mehr Afrooz institute in Semnan. Both quantitative and qualitative findings of the study based on the post-test (r=0.87), are clear indications that at the 0.05 level of significance the task-based method of teaching reading and the vocabulary included, contribute to the development of EFL reading skills more significantly than the conventional CLT or traditional GTM methods.
