Essentials of Herbal Medicaments for Man and His Environment. Some Plant Species Used for Treatment of Cancer and Malaria in South East Nigeria

      Аннотация: Plants obviously originated with the beginning of life on earth as they provide oxygen, food, medicine and shelter needed for existence of life. The use of plants and plant extracts for healing can be traced to the earliest of myths, traditions, and writings used to codify those plant materials that could ease pain and treat diseases. Throughout history, medicines that can be used to prevent, alleviate, and cure the pain and suffering associated with disease and other afflictions have been necessary for the enjoyment of life and a functioning society Indeed, some chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and others that affect individual lives remain a threat to the civilizations of today. The use of traditional medicine practices varies among countries, depending on the availability of modern medical facilities, cost of health care, and trust in the medical system. Medicinal plants are plants used therapeutically for a specific health challenge, whether in modern or traditional medicine. Humans have used them throughout history to either cure or lessen symptoms of an illness.
