Аннотация: Used since ancient times to treat wounds and burns, honey has recently gained increasing interest from the international scientific community and has been the subject of many specialized studies and communications, which have covered both fundamental research as well as clinical studies that have shown the effectiveness of honey in healing various skin lesions. This book, richly illustrated with a number of illustrative clinical cases, intends to analyze and synthesize the current issues of the complex action of honey on wounds, based on studies and research published in the literature, and to draw attention of both medical staff and patients on the possibility of using this product and its acceptability in practice. The book outlines the essential aspects and the guiding principles related to antiinfectious activity of honey in wounds and other pharmacological properties & mechanisms of action, evidence from experiments on laboratory animals and from clinical trials, advantages, disadvantages, risks and acceptability of honey dressings, the procedure of applying honey on wounds, medical grade honey and honey based products for wound therapy, results, conclusions and perspectives.
