The focus basically is on spread of services and producing trained man power of different levels of workers, and encouraging involvement of parents of mentally challenged children in the training and habilitation programmes. Major trends and models of family oriented services presently available in the country for the mentally challenged individuals and their families. Nurses are the key persons of health team, who play vital role in promotion and maintenance of health. They should be involved in planning to educate mothers regarding the care of mentally challenged. Educate on the high risk related to mentally challenge. Nurses should incorporate the concept of different levels of prevention in their practice. They can play a key in identifying the sign and symptoms of mentally challenged and can motivate mothers to improve health and opportunities of the mentally challenged in the society.
