Аннотация: The oral and maxillofacial area is a complex region with many tissues and structures and is thus the site of much diverse pathology. Embryo -logically, they are for the major part derived from migrating cells of the cranial neural crest (ectomesenchyme) and not merely from mesoderm, and that they contain teeth. The latter, especially, results in the presence of lesions that are not found in other bones, i.e, odontogenic cysts and tumors. Other lesions, not strictly odontogenic but also mainly con?ned to the jaw bones, are giant cell lesions, ?bro-osseous lesions, and the melanotic neuro-ectodermal tumor of infancy. Odontogenic cysts and tumors, originate from epithelial component of the odontogenic apparatus or its remnants that lie embedded within the bone or gingival tissues whereas non-odontogenic cysts arise from ectoderm involved in facial tissue development. Moreover some of these lesions have shown neoplastic alterations or aggressive clinical behaviour making their correct diagnosis and prompt treatment important. The clinical and radiographic finding play a significant role in diagnosis and management of these pathologies.
