Аннотация: The Korean Peninsula has a depth of history with different events having transpired since the late 1940s that continue to hinder the realization of unity. It shifted from being under the Japanese to the segmented rule of the Soviet Union and the US. The sought-after independence came at the price of splitting Korea into the ROK (Republic of Korea) and DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). ROK was firstly occupied by the US while DPRK was under the Soviet Union before the two were declared independent in 1948. Troubles that would continue to date started after independence with the new states each claiming a stake and dominion over the other one and the peninsula. At the formative stages, talks commenced with the target of a unified Korea without much progress. Notably, the North invaded the South in 1950 as an affront to the peace efforts that were being pursued.
