Аннотация: The word "race", interpreted to mean an identifiable group of people who share a common descent, was introduced into English in about 1580. Substantial racial variation in the use of dental procedure exits for different races (Mongoloid, Caucasian, Australoid and Negroids). Every individual is having different tooth morphology. Teeth are the most mineralized and hardest structure in the human body. The study of their origin and the variations is called dental anthropology. This area of study is useful in archaeology, paleontology, physical anthropology and forensic pathology. Variations in tooth morphology can occur during initiation of tooth germs, their growth, organic matrix apposition and subsequent mineralization. Sassouni considers the determination of race from teeth to be more of an art than a science, but this does not exclude it from sometimes being a most useful tool in the diagnosis and treatment protocol in field of conservative dentistry and endodontics. It not only helps in identification of unknown bodies but can also be helpful in overall treatment outcome of patients in different racial groups.
