PLANNING STRATEGIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW CAPITAL TOWN IN HILLS. A CASE OF GAIRSAIN, UTTARAKHAND

      Аннотация: Uttarakhand was declared as full-fledged state on 9th of November 2000 after the bifurcation of erstwhile state of Uttar Pradesh. The issue of unbalanced growth and development of backward or rural areas of the State is still a concern, which was the prime reason of reformation of Uttarakhand as a state. With the proposal of new capital town Gairsain, the government is trying to solve the issues of unbalanced development.The dissertation gave an opportunity to plan a city which has been assigned capital functions and understand the challenges of green field development on hilly areas.After a careful analysis of literature study and similar case studies; the book inferences few strategies that can be included for Gairsain town. Based on the carrying capacity and existing scenario; the future development is projected. The book recommends macro & micro level strategies. The author also frames a basic outline of conceptual plan and development guidelines for the new capital town.
