Аннотация: The success of implants being used as anchors has widened the horizons of the orthodontists which should be explored to the best possible advantage for treating cases. Achieving absolute anchorage has been one of the dreams of the practicing orthodontists, and microimplants have become one of the most effective and powerful tools for achieving absolute anchorage. The palate is made of dense bone and thus offers excellent resistance to orthodontic forces. This led to the evolution of palatal mini-implants that can be used as orthodontic anchorage devices for carrying out various orthodontic procedures. From the last 2 decades the advances in palatal implant systems have changed the treatment planning in orthodontics drastically.Due to lack of need for patient compliance, ease of placement and excellent anchorage properties, use of palatal implants has rapidly increased and today these implants are used as anchorage sources in much orthodontic treatment like molar distalization, molar mesialization, unilateral or bilateral palatal expansion, intrusion etc. Thus palatal implants have revolutionized the treatment outcomes and in near future will be used in day-to-day practice.
