Аннотация: This study focus on the geological formation of Pudukkottai District comprises the hard rocks formed in the Archean age to the sedimentary deposits of the Tertiary and Quaternary periods. Geologically, the entire study area can be divided into hard rock and sedimentary rock regions. The hard rocks are found on the western side and sedimentary formation towards the eastern direction. About 45% of the study area is under hard massive formation of Archean age and the west 55% comprises of the sedimentary formation ranging from Pre-Cambrian to Quaternary period. The various types of hard rocks found here are Quartzite, Charnockites, Hornblende- Biotite Gneiss, Granite, and Pegmatite. Charnockites and granite rocks are mostly found in the central part including the Gandarvakottai, Thirumayam area, and the Southern parts of Pudukkottai Block. The red soil outcrop of recent alluvium is also observed associated with the Conglomerate bed. Keeping with the aim, an attempt has been made to delineate Petrography, Mineralogy, and Structural analysis of the hard rocks and conglomerate bed.
