Zirconia crowns have been used for over two decades in permanent dentition with high acceptability due to its esthetics, high biocompatibility, and excellent mechanical properties. Beside using materials as a crown, they are extensively used as zirconia implants, implant abutment, endodontic Post, orthodontic brackets, as a material of choice in framework of complete denture and removable partial denture, and as filler in composites. Incorporation in PMMA as zirconia nanoparticles that is useful to overcome its disadvantages such as porosity, strength and plaque accumulation.This manuscript gives a minute in-depth knowledge of Zirconia material including its properties, histological background, and applications in various fields of dentistry, along with its recent advancement to improve its properties and to overcome its disadvantages.
