Аннотация: Sports dentistry is one of the most upcoming field in dentistry which helps in prevention and management of athletic related Orofacial injuries and associated oral diseases. In children, sports activities were found to be responsible for 13% of overall oral trauma and it is emphasized that there is a great need for “Team Dentist” from high schools to professional teams. The position of the sports team dentist at any level can be fun, rewarding, and professionally satisfying. It requires a significant investment of time and resources. Preventive aspects during sports have changed the incidence of the injuries to the athlete. The preventive measures like usage of helmets, mouthguards, and other protective gears have reduced the impact on the athlete, thereby reducing the injuries. The team dentist must always nurture the relationship between dentistry and medicine via the athletic trainer. Thus prevention is an obligation of dentistry as well as patient responsibility.
