Аннотация: Due to our country’s geology, expansive soils with poor geotechnical properties are frequently encountered, thus causing severe damage to civil engineering projects. Therefore, it is necessary to improve these soils to support the various construction projects. This research aims to study the effect of lime, natural pozzolana, and their combination on the physical and mechanical properties of expansive clay soil. Test results show that the studied properties of clay soil can be considerably improved when treated with lime. Adding natural pozzolana to lime-treated clay soil significantly improved their physical and mechanical properties. Compared to using the lime alone, an open soil fabric with more flocculated particles and additional formation of cementitious materials was produced when treating the clayey soil with lime-natural pozzolana mixtures. The combination of lime and natural pozzolana can effectively improve the workability and the geotechnical properties of the clay soil and change them from poor to excellent.
