Аннотация: In summary, this book searches for a basis to research sustainable urbanization. With this aim on site, the book discusses the concept of sustainability, its forms of measurement, and urbanization (the increase of urban population relative to the rural population). Sustainable Urbanization is a complex process determined by social, economic and environmental factors, conceiving the city as a stage for ecosystems whose analysis substantiates the nascent science of Urban Ecology. This discipline has made it possible to define future conditions for populations and communities that participate in urban ecosystems, possible states of environmental phenomena, more sustainable urban standards and limits for urban growth, besides serving as guidance for research and integrated planning. The definition of the urban ecosystem places human societies as subsystems, as populations that dominate territories but necessarily share these spaces with other species, subjected to natural geophysical and chemical processes that interact and determine these artificially created environments with other species. Urban Sustainability does not just depend on us.
