Аннотация: Bruxism is a parafunctional oromotor habit with a high prevalence rate of having detectable signs and symptoms. Nocturnal bruxism is associated with stress and manifests as a sleep disorder while diurnal bruxism presents as an oral parafunction. Diurnal bruxism is associated with centric tooth wear, while nocturnal bruxism is related to eccentric tooth wear. A tailored multimodal therapeutic approach is advocated to prevent teeth damage and treat the pathological sequelae of bruxism on the masticatory structures. Devices like self-contained EMG detector analyzers have long-term potential if scientifically verified in large population-based studies as they have proven useful in routine clinical practice. Bruxism management requires a multimodality approach in the form of counseling, lifestyle alteration, pharmacological interventions, and occlusal appliances. Multiple occlusal appliances are available, each having its specific design, indication, precautions, and adverse effects. It remains obligatory for the treating clinicians to have a thorough understanding of the complex masticatory system and perform a comprehensive clinical evaluation to choose the correct appliance.
