Аннотация: The global problem of increasing trend in antimicrobial resistance is particularly pressing in the developing countries, where the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is often the severe causal agent in hospital-acquired infections. There is now an increase in difficulties to treat such patients because of emergence of resistance to all current antibiotic classes. A significant increase in methicillin-resistant S. aureus in hospitals. However, regional differences in the epidemiological factors of MRSA appear to be significant. Rapid and reliable detection of MRSA is essential in order to secure the optimal treatment of patients with Staphylococcal infections, as well as for infection control procedures. In the present study S. aureus clinical isolates were collected from four hospitals. All confirmed S. aureus isolates were processed for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, performed by the modified Kirby-Bauer technique. The positive predictive values of the tests performed for the defining MRSA on MIC was higher than disc diffusion. It was concluded that oxacillin resistance on MIC was the more reliable than disc diffusion for defining MRSA isolates.

Since their discovery and use, antibiotics have considerably reduced mortality from infectious diseases. Unfortunately, bacterial resistance to antibiotics quickly became a major health problem worldwide. It appeared rapidly, as early as 1942, with the first penicillin-resistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus. However, bacterial resistance to...

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that can be found on healthy people's skin, axillae, perineum, and nares. One of the most common causes of skin and soft tissue infections is Staphylococcus aureus. Cellulitis, boils, and furuncles are some of the most common clinical manifestations of S. aureus infection, and if left untreated, can develop to...

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the commonest human pathogens capable of causing a wide range of infections, especially hospital and community associated infections. Staphylococcus aureus is widely recognized as the most significant nosocomial pathogen due to its virulence potential and because the species has acquired resistance to almost all current antibiotics. S. aureus is also an important cause of community-acquired sepsis worldwide. MRSA bacteraemia rates in the UK and internationally remain high and...
