Аннотация: poetry is a verbal art. It is universally accepted that the history of poetry is as old as that the humans. The beginning of poems goes back to the early 20th century BC. Many of the poems surviving from the ancient world are recorded prayers, or stories about the religious subject matter, but they also include historical accounts, instructions for everyday activities, love songs. Many people have done various researches using poems. Kamala Wijerathne is a famous poetess who wrote poems based on various themes. War is one of her themes. Because of war, the women whose husbands are in war face many difficulties. Therefore, this research is based on Kamala wijerathne’s poems which analyze the relationship between war and women. Using a soldier’s wife weeps, musical, monuments, for a Sinhala soldier, women’s lib, for a Sinhala soldier and an unmarked grave poem as well as using four themes this research has carried out. The themes are the role of women whose husbands are soldiers, women becoming victims of war, women proud of been tolerating figures when their husbands are at war and life of soldiers. So, these poems show that when the husband is at war, the woman has to be in home.
