Аннотация: Innate immunity is thought to contribute to sustained virological response (SVR) to pgylated interferon-?/ribavirin (peg-IFN-?/ribavirin) therapy. Natural killer (NK) cells are implicated in the regulation of a protective immune response in patients chronically infected with HCV. We sought to investigate the level of NK subsets among Egyptian patients with chronic HCV and to analyze the influence of IFN therapy on this level. Samples were collected from chronically infected patients (n= 37) at baseline and from a subset before and after 6 months on peg-IFN-?/ribavirin therapy. NK cells were characterized by flow cytometry. The number of CD3- CD56+ cells was significantly lower in patients with chronic HCV infection before treatment compared to healthy controls, but they increased during IFN therapy. There was a significant increase in the number of CD16+ and CD3- CD56+ cells in patients with sustained virological responses (SVR) during therapy compared to patients are non-responders (NR). Meanwhile, CD56+ cells were significantly increased in patients with chronic HCV infection before treatment compared to healthy controls and decreased during therapy in responders.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the aberrant production of auto-reactive antibodies, resulting in a variety of clinical manifestations. Natural killer (NK) cells, the 3rd largest lymphocyte population, contribute to a large extent in the pathogenesis of SLE. miRNAs, are small noncoding RNA...

Stemming the rising tide of global ill health from liver disorders, hepatologists worldwide have never been challenged as such. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) poses a heavy burden globally, pivoting on the geographic region, in Egypt; HCC ranks the second most prevalent cancer and the second most frequent cause of cancer related mortality. Yet,...

Natural killer cells (NK cells) are the so called smart, non-educated cells programmed to respond to danger signals. They are our "bodyguards" that aim to attack any type of stress that we encounter. This innate immune system member is known to be a target for copious viral infections. Egypt is a hepatitis C anomaly with the highest...

Natural Killer Cells Phenotype and Hepatitis C Virus Infection. .
2015 г.,  136 стр.,  мягкий переплет
During the early phases of a hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, natural killer (NK) cells activation appears to be critical in the innate immune responses that have the potential of clearing the infection. Impaired activity of NK cells has been proposed as a mechanism contributing to viral persistence and chronic infection in HCV infection. We aim...
